Xtra Time Web Desk: Teenage Punjab cricketer Prabhsimran Singh may consider himself fortunate to have received an appreciation from none other than master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. The dashing wicket keeper batsman from Patiala was appreciated by Tendulkar for his bat swing and back lifts, a trademark of a good batsman. The master blaster enjoyed the sound coming out from his bat hitting the ball in whatever little he watched him play. Prabhsimran, who is yet to make his first class debut has already impressed many with his attacking style of play.

Former India wicket-keeper Kiran More, who has a knack for spotting talent was highly impressed with the youngster during his stay at the National Cricket Academy. The former national selector even compared him with Pant, labeling him as the right hand version of the Delhi wicket keeper batsman.

Hailing from Punjab, the 18-year old was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for a whooping Rs 4.80 crores in the IPL auctions. In fact he was involved in a three way bidding war between Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab. The franchise from Punjab eventually roped in the young talent but only after spending a hefty sum.

Young Prabhsimran first came into limelight when he hammered the Amritsar bowlers all over the park during his 301-ball 298 - studded with 29 boundaries and 13 sixes - in the semifinal of the Punjab U-23 Inter-District cricket tournament in June 2019. Four months later, the youngster led India U-19 to Asia Cup glory.

The talented batsman was handed the cap last season in IPL when he made his debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He only played couple of matches last season. The youngster has already featured for Anil Kumble coached KXIP side in three matches. But he is yet to score anything significant with his highest score being 16.

With constant guidance of Anil Kumble and advice from seniors like KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal one would hope it will only help Prabhsimran develop his game. One good knock from the talented wicket keeper batsman will definitely shift the spotlight towards him. Let’s hope Prabhsimran Singh can tick a few boxes before the end of this IPL season.
