IPL 2018: Meet SunRisers Hyderabad’s new game changer, Deepak Hooda

KKR

XtraTime Web Desk: Last night when, Jasprit Bumrah took two back to back wickets of ace all-rounder Yusuf Pathan and Rashid Khan everyone started thinking that SRH won’t be able to chase a modest total of 148 runs to win set by Mumbai Indians, except Deepak Hooda, who played a match-winning knock of 32 runs from just 25 deliveries to take his side home. But those who are thinking he is a one-match wonder, they are very much wrong.

Hooda was a key batsman for Indian U19 side in the year 2014. In that year he debuted in domestic cricket for Baroda and scored a brilliant ton. He became the only second player after Snehal Pradhan to achieve this feat.

After his good show in the domestic season, he was picked by IPL side Rajasthan Royals in the year 2015 where everyone lauded his ability of hitting the ball clean. Next year he got the contract from Sunrises Hyderabad who signed him for a humongous sum of 4.2 crore which was 42 times of his base price of 10 lakh.

Ahead of the ongoing season, Hyderabad again picked him for 3.6 crore rupees during the players auction earlier this year. Many critics started asking that what is the reason for SRH to by Hooda with this amount of money. Well the ‘Baroda Bomber’s has answered to all last night to hand the Sunrisers Hyderabad outfit a one-wicket win over Mumbai Indians and make the home crowd happy.

Chasing a total of 148 runs to win the home side won the game in the last ball, thanks to a brilliant batting by their star opener Shikhar Dhawan and all-rounder Deepak Hooda. Dhawan scored 45 runs in just 28 deliveries before getting out. He hit eight boundaries in this process. Hooda remained not out on 32 runs on just 25 deliveries.

Young wrist spinner of Mumbai Indians, Mayank Markande again showed his class today like the last game as he took 4 wickets of by giving just 23 runs in his allotted 4 overs. Batsmen like Wriddhiman Saha, Shikhar Dhawan, Manish Pandey and Shakib Dhawan all failed to pick his mystery and got out one by one. Later in the chase, Jasprit Bumrah took two back to back wickets of Yusuf Pathan and Rashid Khan to give some hope to the visiting side but Hooda did the remaining job for the hosts to take them home.

In the last over SRH needed 11 runs with just 1 wicket left. Hooda hit a big six on Ben Cutting’s first ball with the equation showed 5 runs in 5 balls. After that it was a wide by cutting, then it was a dot ball. Then the last two batsmen took three singles and SRH needed just 1 run in the final delivery. Billy Stanlake hit the last ball for a four to hand the home side their second back to back win at home.
