Ishan is the only bowler from Bengal who played U-23, and Ranji Trophy for Bengal and got chance for U-19 India team. Earlier, players from Bengal like Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Shreevats Goswami, Ravikant Singh and Sandipan Das got chance to wear U-19 national team jersey.

This eighteen years old fast bowler won Cooch Behar Trophy last year as he got a call from U-19 National team and bowled brilliantly in a flat wicket in England and crushed English batsmen. Despite his outstanding performances the selectors probably forgot to call him for the Asia Cup. He proved himself again in the Challengers Trophy with picking eight wickets in four matches among which he got two wickets by giving only 17 runs against Sri Lanka Board President XI.

“I never thought that I will get a chance in the Challengers Trophy but when the opportunity came, I knew it’s my last chance, and I will not miss it this time. I bowled better than the rest of the pacers, so there was a hope that there would be a place in the team, but I was quite confirmed about my place in the team. The team representative took my passport from the hotel and asked to sign a form of ICC. Then receiving the good news was only the matter of time.”
