MB Practice 280417 rr (18) Kolkata: Compton Dutta, a Technical Committee member of Mohun Bagan was a veteran defender of the club when joined in 1975. Dutta who is in the technical committee said that the teams overall performance cannot be said all it once, rather it can be broken into different phases. Performance of a team is like a graph, it has crests and troughs. Referring to the 2014-15 season where Mohun Bagan were the I-League champs, the overall performance of the team throughout the season was consistence which was missing this current season as well as the season back. The Mariners began their season on a high note but during the middle lagged down and lost lot of points, especially in the away games. “If we break the I-League into 4 portions, the 4th quarter is very important as during this period the players become tired and the mental stability too becomes an issue as players suffer from injuries.” said Dutta. “To reach the top of the mountain, proper calculations must be done when staying at the foot of the mountain. Proper calculations should have been made regarding which match is a must win or which match the team should opt for a draw. These calculations were missing as well as injury of players too played a vital role in this season.” said Dutta. Dutta said that he would have been extremely happy if the Green and Maroon brigade would have won the league but is also happy for Aizawl FC because he thinks the contention for I-League comes down to only three clubs, Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Bangaluru FC. But Aizawl’s feat is astonishing as they were introduced into the league two seasons back and they faced relegation worries last season. The way in which the team from North East played throughout the tournament is highly commendable. The former right-back thinks that Home advantage should have been taken up properly for Bagan. Citing Aizawl, who won 8 of their home matches and drew their last match, was vital for the team Mizoram for becoming the Champions. For a team to perform at a constant rate five-six players should perform outstandingly well, two players can perform at a mediocre rate. This however was absent in the Bagan side. Individual brilliance was seen among players while they all failed to perform well together all throughout the season. Compton Dutta is hopeful that his team is favourite to win the upcoming Fed Cup and is certain that his team would perform well. Though the team is injury stricken as left back Subhasish Bose is recovering and Pronoy Halder is out with a grade two ligament tear. The rest of the players should put in extra effort to win the upcoming Cup.
