The away side got an early goal, but the brilliance from Balwant and a late penalty goal by Katsumi Yusa puts them level on points on the top of the points table with arch rivals East Bengal. The first half literally dominated by the DSK Shivajians side as the dimunutive Spaniard Juan Querro made lives difficult for the Mariners. The first move came from the away side as Jerry's powerful attempt from the left wing went just wide of the first post. DSK continued to trouble the lacklustre Mariners defence as Holicharan Narzary's excellent effort from the right flank went inches wide. The best chance of the game came in the 20th minute when Juan Querro made a superb solo run after getting a gorgeous through ball from Sumit Passi, but Debjit Majumder came to the rescue with a penomenal save to prevent the goal. The first goal of the game came in the 33rd minute as Dave Rogers' men got their persistence paid off with a delightfully worked out goal. Juan Querro foxed Bagan's Brazilian defender Eduardo and placed a magnificent pass for Milan Singh, who made no mistake to put his team ahead. The early blow forced coach Sanjoy Sen to make an immediate change of tactics. Bagan's shrewd tactician brought in Prabir Das in place of off-coloured Sehnaj Singh as Katsumi Yusa started operating from the middle. The equaliser came in the 43rd minute when Pritam Kotal delivered an inviting ball from the right and veteran Subrata Paul made a poor mistake in the air which allowed Balwant Singh to tap the header at the back of the net. Immediately after scoring the equalizing goal, Balwant scored another brilliant goal through a stunning side-volley which gave no chance to Subrata Paul to make a save. The Green and Maroon brigade left the ground at the half time with a 2-1 lead. Mohun Bagan started the second half in an inspired fashion as they got two back to back chances in the first 5 minutes. In the 47th minute, Sony Norde delevered a fine corner kick but Eduardo's header went just over. In the 51st minute, Darryl Duffy got an open sitter but experience of Subrata Paul helped him to make a despairing save. In the 56th minute Sony Norde showed a moment of brilliance as his excellent through ball found Katsumi Yusa. The Japanese found an unmarked Balwant on his right but the Punjabi lad couldn't put the shot on target. In the 58th minute Balwant got another fine chance to complete his hat-trick when Pritam Kotal found him in front of the goal-mouth. But Balwant's shot once again was nowhere near the target. DSK got a fine chance to score the equalizer when Shane McFoul's gorgeous flick missed the goal by some inches in the 82nd minute. Mohun Bagan got a late penalty kick when Gourmangi Singh tripped Jeje Lalpekhlua inside the box in the 88th minute. Katsumi Yusa made no mistake to place the ball at the back of the net as Subrata Paul dived on the opposite end. The win helps Sanjoy Sen's team to catch up league leaders East Bengal on points and gives the much needed momentum before playing their next fixtures. Hero of the Match: Balwant Singh
