Indian Arrows put up a decent show against Shillong Lajong and come up with a solid defensive performance to grab their first victory in this Hero I-League at Cuttack today. An absolute stunning goal from Ashish Rai was just enough for Floyd Pinto’s boys to snatch the three points.

Shillong Lajong started the game on a positive note, but in the 11th minute, Arrows took the lead when Ashish Rai won a loose ball at the left edge of the penalty box. His sensational curling shot went straight into the goal as Novin Gurung had no answer.

The Highlanders got their best chance of the first half to equalise when Kenstar Kharshong connected a header from Samuel Lamuanpuia’s corner but the ball went just wide of the target.

Arrows gaffer once again was brilliant on his tactics and his intricate web in the defence hardly allowed the opposition to trouble the Arrows goalkeeper.

Alison Kharsyntiew’s side, on the flip side though came close to score the equalizing goal in the 88th minute. Aibanbha Dohling’s thumping header from inside the box was saved by Arrows defender Reamsochung Chongompipa Aimol from the goal-line and denied Lajong from scoring the equaliser.

Indian Arrows move to third position in the league table after this game with three points from two games. Shillong Lajong, on the other end, remained at the fifth position with similar points from three matches.
