I-League 2017-18: 10 men Chennai City upsets Mohun Bagan, hands a disappointing draw

Internet Desk: Mohun Bagan drops crucial points against Chennai City FC at Coimbatore as the home side put up a stinging effort despite being down to 10 men to earn a well-fought goal-less draw snatch a point in the I-League.

Mohun Bagan started the game with a positive note as Azharuddin Mallick missed a sitter in the 4th minute. Raynier intercepted the ball but the ball fell to Dipanda who laid it off for the wideman to tap into the net from 12 yards. Azharuddin blasted it over the bar.
Chennai started to take the control of the game as they started to combine and move the ball well after that. In the 27th minute Rakic curled the free-kick around the Bagan wall but Shilton Paul dived on to his right and made a brilliant save to prevent a goal.
In the 76th minute, Joachim picked up the ball, flicked it over his marker and shot at Shilton who producet a breathtaking fingertip save to parry it over the bar.
The draw keeps Mohun Bagan on the 4th spot and two points behind East Bengal after equal number of games.
In the 86th minute, referee had lost the plot in Coimbatore. Tarif fouled Dipanda and referee awarded a penalty. Kabir saved the penalty and Edwin was fouled near the corner flag as he tried to clear the rebound. He protested the tackle and referee produced two yellows together to send him off. Meanwhile, Tarif was already on a yellow and he was still on the pitch.
