Kolkata: CAB president Sourav Ganguly thinks that the current breed of young players can very well bring back the lost glory of Bengal cricket and can went on to represent the country in international stage.

The Bengal U19 team, which emerged victorious in the recently concluded Coochbehar Trophy on the virtue of first innings lead, were felicitated today. Coach Goutam Shome jr, captain Md.Irfan Ansari and the other players hoisted flag in front of Ganguly and other influencial CAB leader’s.

Ganguly felt ambitious over the current breed of youngsters, as he proclaimed that these are the early good signs of Vision 2020, and he gave the credit to the coaches of the project, namely VVS Laxman and Muttiah Muralidaran. Kanishk Seth, Ishan Porel all are the outcome of Vision 2020. He added,” We have brought Laxman, Murali and Shkhar for the development of Bengal cricket, if you give them time you will see a lot of development in Bengal cricket. We already have seen a lot of difference in players mentality. Wriddhi has scored his maiden double ton in first class cricket. So we are hopeful that Bengal will do well under these coaches guidance.”

For the upcoming U-19 series against England only Ishan Porel has made it to the Indian team for Bengal. Sourav was not worried about this too.” Selectors cannot give chances to all the Bengal players at a time. There are other players who have done well for their states. And the selectors have picked the U-19 squad before the Cooch Behar trophy final” Ganguly added.

Although he remained silent over the ongoing speculations regarding the Lodha committee decisions and explained that the CAB will follow a ‘slow but steady”‘ way in dealing with such problems.
