Former World Champion passes away in a car accident

XtraTime Web Desk: Kenyan 400m hurdles star Nicholas Bett has died in a car accident at the age of 28.





A gold medalist at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, Bett had just returned from the African Championships in Asaba, Nigeria.

According to reports, he was involved in an accident in Nandi, in north-west Kenya, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.





Athletics Kenya confirmed the news on Twitter, saying: “We regret to learn of the sudden demise of one of our top athletes, the 2015 400m Hurdles World Champion #NicholasKiplagatBett who represented Kenya in the just concluded Africa Championships. Our condolences to his family and the entire athletics fraternity.”

Kenya topped the medals table at the 2018 African Championships with 11 gold medals, two more than South Africa and Nigeria, though Bett didn’t make it onto the podium.
