Kolkata: Former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke hopes of a top-four finish from Jose Mourinho’s side in-spite of the disastrous start to the Premier League.

“I think a top-four finish is still possible,” Yorke who was part of United’s treble trophy winning season in 1998-99, told reporters on the sidelines of the clubs #ILoveUnited promotion in the city ahead of Red Devils clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday.

“Jose (Mourinho) is a good manager and I have faith in him to lift the team,” Yorke said.

The Trinidadian footballer who finished top-league scorer during that fabled season under then coach Alex Ferguson rallied behind Mourinho saying the Portuguese has the ability to guide his team bounce back.

United are sixth in the points table after 14 matches with only 21 points. League leaders Chelsea are 13 points ahead of them.

“It has been a difficult period after Sir Alex (Ferguson). It has been tough for David Moyes and Louis Van Gaaal to not only meet the expectations in England but also across the globe,” Yorke, one of the club’s global ambassadors said.

Yorke lauded United’s Football Association (FA) Cup win under then coach Louis Van Gaal last season.

“The FA Cup win was good. It’s been tough days but I’m sure the quality Mourinho has the team will bounce back.”

The former Trinidad and Tobago world cupper also said that the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) should have foreigners who can make a contribution to Indian football and the teams should have a proper balance between the foreign and Indian players.

“There need to be a good balance between Indian and foreign footballers. Most importantly the teams should look at taking foreign players who has the quality. ISL is definitely helping Indian football but until and unless you have quality foreign footballers, standard of football won’t rise.”

Yorke accompanied his former Manchester United team mates Quinton Fortune and Bojan Djordjic to the Rabindra Sarobar stadium in the evening to witness ISL semi final first leg clash between Atletico de Kolkata and Mumbai City FC.
