Internet Desk: The young Amarjit Singh is now probably the proudest kid in India as the ace midfielder has been chosen as the captain of the India U17 National Team for the forthcoming FIFA U17 World Cup, which is going to be the first ever FIFA World Cup appearance in the history of Indian football. According to reports, the young lad is the most popular one among the Indian squad and it was he who was voted to be the captain of the side by his teammates.

Amarjit possibly is the only player who did not vote for himself. Jitendra Singh finished second and will be the vice-captain, while Suresh Singh, who led India at the AFC U16 Championship last year received the third highest votes. Defender Sanjeev Stalin finished fourth.

India’s Portuguese coach Luis Norton De Matos handed over the blank slips of paper to the players, he had just one rule: don’t vote for any of the goalkeepers.

Born and brought up in Manipur, Amarjit was introduced to the game by his uncle and he soon found himself at the Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA). When the selectors were hunting for players to represent India at the U-17 World Cup, Amarjit was invited for trials and he caught the eye of everyone. At first, he was slotted with the reserve side and made the first-team grade after German coach Nicolai Adam.
