Xtra Time Web Desk: In a recent development, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has weighed in on the intense competition for wicketkeeping slots in the senior national team, expressing his firm belief that Rishabh Pant deserves a spot in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Ganguly, speaking ahead of Delhi's IPL 2024 clash against Mumbai, highlighted Pant's remarkable resurgence after a prolonged injury hiatus caused by a road accident in December 2022.

Ganguly, currently serving as the Director of Cricket for the Delhi franchise, asserted that both Pant and Sanju Samson possess the credentials to be included in the 15-man squad, slated for announcement before the end of April. He emphasized Pant's stellar performance in the ongoing IPL season, where he has showcased exceptional form with both bat and gloves, leading Delhi Capitals from the front.

"I love Sanju, I love Rishabh. Rishabh will go (to the T20 World Cup). Sanju might also go. I am not saying Sanju should not go. He is as good a player as anybody. He bats, he has captained Rajasthan superbly. Both can go, if the selectors feel, but Rishabh should go," Sourav Ganguly said.

Pant's extraordinary return to form, despite facing multiple injuries and mobility challenges just a year ago, has significantly bolstered his case for selection. His recent innings, notably an explosive 88 off 43 balls against Gujarat, have further solidified his position as a potential asset for India's campaign in the USA and the West Indies.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson's commendable performances for Rajasthan Royals have also garnered attention, with the Kerala wicketkeeper amassing 314 runs in 8 matches at an impressive strike rate exceeding 150, guiding his team to the top of the IPL 2024 points table.

However, amidst speculation about the second wicketkeeper slot, a PTI report suggests that KL Rahul, displaying signs of returning to form while opening for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024, is emerging as the frontrunner. This development hints at a potential delay in Samson's World Cup aspirations, as he may have to wait for another opportunity to make his mark on the international stage.
