FIFA U17 World Cup: Do you know how the Manipuri players were welcomed in Imphal?

Internet Desk: India’s campaign in the FIFA U17 World Cup has ended couple of days back when they lost their last group A game against Ghana by 1-0. Though the U17 colts didn’t qualify for the knock out stages but the whole world lauded their performances. After that all the players are returning to their home town to spend some time with their family. Today Seven Manipuri players today returned to their state and after reaching they received overwhelming reception.

A mass number of football fans and former footballers came to meet them at the airport to cheer the boys.  Each of them were garlanded and the people clapped for their spirited.

Captain Amarjit Kiyam of the 21-member national team on his return expressed gratitude to those who supported them and said such support would encourage young players.
He urged for the development of a world class stadium in the state to make local players adapt to playing in world class ground.

Midfielder Jeakson Thounaonaojam who made history by scoring the first ever goal by an Indian in a FIFA World Cup during the second match against Colombia was a darling to the crowd.
Star goal keeper Dheeraj Moirangthem, who received praise from the United States coach, stayed back in New Delhi.
