Internet Desk : Manchester United defeated second tier Derby County 3-1 to advance to the 5th round of the FA Cup at the iPro Stadium. Goals from Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Daley Blind see United secured a place in the next round. George Thorne reduced the deficit for the Home side.
United came into the match with a 0-1 loss to Southampton. Louis Van Gaal was under tremendous pressure to deliver as everybody was complaining of boring football. Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with a curling shot in the 16th minute although he seemed to have received the ball from a offside position. George Thorne equalized for the home side in the 37th minutes. Dutch Defender Daley Blind doubled the lead in the 65th minutes for the visitors. Lingard delivered a low cross towards the six yard box and Blind neatly side footed it to make it 2-1.
Mata sealed the match in the 83rd minutes. Following a pass from Anthony Martial Mata took a low shot that edged past the Derby keeper. Anthony Martial was brilliant for the Red Devils as he continuously pressurized the opponent defence. Earlier the Dutchman has refuted the rumours that he had offers to resign after the Southampton loss.
Manchester united are now 5th in the Premier League standings and will face Stoke City on 3rdFebruary at the Old Trafford.
