XtraTime Web Desk: Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich defeated Sevilla 2-1 to lift the European Super Cup at the Puskas arena on Thursday night. It was the Europa League winners who took the lead through Lucas Ocampos in the 13th-minute from a penalty. Bayern leveled the score through Leon Goretzka’s well-taken goal 11 minutes before the break.
However, despite having two goals disallowed, the European champions eventually found a way past Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bono thanks to substitute Javi Martinez’s header in extra time. The Spaniard also scored in extra time in Bayern’s only previous Super Cup win in 2013.
The Bavarians are now unbeaten in 32 consecutive matches. It was the fourth title for Flick since taking over the charges last November. He won the domestic league and Cup double as well as the Champions League. Bayern’s last defeat dates back to December 2019.
Some 15,000 fans were seated in Budapest’s Puskas Arena with the game seen as a test event for the gradual return of fans to European games.
