Xtra Time Web Desk : Former India and RCB captain Virat Kohli have been going through an extended lean patch. Kohli hasn't scored a hundred in any format for almost three years now, since the ton he scored against Bangladesh in Pink Ball Test at Eden Gardens in November 2019. Virat’s poor form in international cricket has transpired into the ongoing IPL season where he has failed to get going as far as scoring runs is concerned. After 8 innings, Kohli has scored 119 runs at an average of 19.83 – his worst average in an IPL season since 2009. He also registered two golden ducks in the previous two matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

There has been immense scrutiny on everything Kohli does or says; people – fans, former cricketers, just everyone who has an opinion on the batsman – trying to figure out what’s going wrong with his batting – whether his technique, fatigue from bubble life and packed schedule, lack of rest, lack of desire to now perform at the level that he used to, etc.

Former cricketers like Ravi Shastri and Kevin Pietersen have suggested Kohli to take a break from cricket, so as to comeback recharged. RCB coach Sanjay Bangar stated Kohli is doing everything which is under his control' but there comes a phase in a player's life when even the first edge is being taken by fielders.

But a certain section of fans was quick to react to Kohli’s cheap dismissal as they took to Twitter to brutally trolled the 33-year-old batter. Few of the trolls even targeted his wife Anushka Sharma. Here are some of the recent trolls being targeted at Virat Kohli.

But the bigger question is, someone of the stature of Virat Kohli, who has been the best batter in modern cricket not quite long ago deserve to be trolled. Virat has successfully led the country across all formats. His records speak for himself. He still averages 50+ in ODIs and T20Is although his test average has gone below 50 recently. For someone playing international cricket for more than a decade can go through a bad patch in his career. It has happened to the best of the cricketers including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara.

According to RCB Head Coach Sanjay Bangar, Kohli has been doing his fitness and skills and taking good breaks and not letting the pressure get to him. He has been taking breaks at regular intervals and will continue to do so going forward. So, we can only hope that Kohli is just one innings away from regaining his golden touch with the bat.
