London : Didier Drogba’s return to Chelsea hit a roadblock. The West London club  are still hopeful of finding a way so that  Drogba can  start work with interim manager Guus Hiddink, but negotiations with MLS have so far been slow.

Drogba has been playing with the MLS side Montreal Impact but actually his contract is  held by MLS itself. So if Chelsea want Drogba as their assistant cocah they would have to negotiate with MLS not Montreal Impact.

Drogba had a huge success in his first season at Montreal, scoring 12 goals in 14 MLS games, and the Ivory Coast international  has bigger worldwide appeal for the league than either Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard. With another season left on with Montreal Impact , Chelsea would have to give a hefty compensation to MLS if they want to sign the veteran. Drogba was recently spotted at the Stamford Bridge, sitting between Chelsea owner, Roman Abrahmovich and interim coach Guus Hiddink in the match against Sunderland.

Unless Drogba announces his retirement from football, Chelsea must come to an agreement with MLS  to release him a year early from his Montreal deal because it is the league and not the club that hold his contract. Since the American and European league seasons do not coincide, there is always a possibility of  a deal that would let Drogba work with both the clubs.

Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink is also  interested in making the 37yeasr old  striker work with him at Stamford Bridge as a part of his coaching staffs.

The Blues drew their last match against Manchester United.Chelsea’s next match is against Crystal Palace.
