Delighted to play for my home soil after 17 years- Gouramangi Singh’s blog

Gouramangi Singh: Neroca is just like my family. I personally want to thank the team management for recruiting me. I am delighted as I got the chance to come back to my home soil after seventeen years.  It’s a proud moment for us as Neroca got the chance to play in the I-league. There was no question about the passion of football among the people of North East. Earlier, Mizoram produced many footballers including Shylo Malsawmtluanga, popularly known as Mama. Thanks to Kolkata, Goan clubs for giving chance to the players from North East to play for them. There was no club to play for the local boys. But in last five to six years’ scenarios changed drastically Lajong FC, Aizawl FC ,Neroca Fc came forward we got new team in ISL (North East United Fc) as well.  So many young footballers are coming to play the game. We use to watch Kolkata teams from here as we won’t have any team to play for at a point of time.

The team has U-13 U- 15 and U-18 teams among them U-15 and U-18 team played I-league which shows how strong our infrastructure is. As a senior member of the team, I share my experience with my teammates. We have seen a huge turnout in the last I league match against Chennai City FC. The win against Chennai will give a boost to us. The boys are excited specially after watching Aizawl Fc winning the league last year. We have many other sportspersons in boxing like Mary Kom and she is an idol to the youngsters too. We have seen many hockey, archery players as well playing for our country and making India proud. But, football is very popular in this part of India because it is the most popular game in the world.

State Government is also helping the team and trying to install floodlight at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, which is the home ground of our team and we are first Manipur stadium to host an I-league match.  The club trying to improve the infrastructure of the stadium too.

There should be an unified league in India. We want to take part in the Super Cup where the players will get the opportunities to play against the star players from ISL . We have so many players who are enjoying and improving themselves, they are also technically very sound. They are scoring goals and I hope they can continue this performance in the future. We expect more crowds in the stadium for upcoming matches. So that we can perform well and entertain the people of Mizoram.
