Davis Cup: Leander Paes is in front a historic feat

XtraTime Web Desk: Legendary Indian tennis player Leander Paes is set to get another chance to get into the history books as All India Tennis Association (AITA) has picked him in the India squad against China in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group I tie which will be played in Tianjin, China, in April.

Paes, who recently reached in to-50 world rankings again, will create history if he manages to register his 43rd win in the Davis Cup against China. He would surpass Italy’s Nicola Pietrangeli.

There was not much surprise in the team selection with singles specialists Yuki Bhambri, Ramnathan Ramkumar and Sumit Nagal was picked on the basis of their superior rankings with Rohan Bopanna completing the line up.

Captain Mahesh Bhupathi had dropped Paes from the team while India faced Uzbekistan last April and that decision shocked the tennis world. A bitter war of words started after the incident. Paes also not considered for the World Group Play -off against Canada.

Paes likely to be named in the contest for the tie against China by All India Tennis Federation (AITA) China has lot more experience in their squad.

Purav Raja has been dropped and World’s 44th ranked player Divij Sharan who has been named as a reserve.
