Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s picture post on Facebook has suddenly created controversies as the Buddhists have started claiming that CR7 was disrespectful on the Buddhism.

Apparently, Cristiano Ronaldo did not mean to insult Buddha intentionally. However, Buddhists are angry. It pays to know other people’s culture…

Do you ever realize how repetitive the comments on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Facebook posts appear? The usual ones we get to read are:

“Like if you say Ronaldo is the best player in the world!”. There is also: “Ronaldo makes Madrid great, Barca makes Messi great. That’s the only difference between the two players. Messi is so scared of leaving Barca.” And perhaps the most famous copy-paste comment of all is the long one which begins with:

“He don’t drink alcohol because he felt the pains that cause the death of his father,,he has no tattoos so as to give out blood two times a year to some hospitals,he come from a poor family and he lost his father when he was barley 20.”

Well, that was not the case on Thursday morning as Cristiano Ronaldo posted a picture of himself posing by the Buddha statue in the backyard of his house in Madrid. The Portuguese superstar just wanted to wish everyone a “Bom Dia” (Good morning, in Portuguese). The conversation took another turn, though.

Finally, a post which drew comments that are really relevant to the topic! However, not in a very positive way.

Distraught by the controversial picture, a fan left a comment on the photo and pasted the same on a totally unrelated post — that of Ronaldo with a face mask. The comment summed up the plea of his Buddhist fan-base:

“Cristiano Ronaldo, I am your fan. But you should respect our Buddha. [Whether] you’re Christian or Islam or Hindu. You have a lot of fans from these religions. You’re a famous football player. I apologize [on your behalf]. Please don’t do like that. This photo hit our (Buddhist) hearts. Only religious [fans] can understand me.”
