Kolkata: After VP Suher and Surabuddin Mollick, East Bengal’s star forward from Trinidad and Tobago Willis Plaza scored a brilliant hattrick for his side as the Red and Gold Brigade have registered a thumping 5-0 win against Tollygunge Agragami today to reach the top of the points table in the Calcutta Football League 2017. This win will give a much needed boost to East Bengal as well as Willis Plaza ahead of the all important Kolkata Derby which will take place at Siliguri on September 24.

After becoming the savior of his side in the Mini derby at the last minute of the game, Trinidad and Tobago striker Willis Plaza continued his brilliant form against Tollygunge as he single handedly destroyed Shubhas Bhowmick brigade by scoring three goals. Plaza opened the account for the Red & Gold Brigade on the 27th minute of the game through a brilliant header, which gave no chance to the opponent goalie. The score remained 1-0 at the break. Just in 5 minutes of the second half, the lanky striker showed how good a forward he is and doubled the lead for his side with individual brilliance. On the 63rd minute of the game Plaza completed his hat-trick to give his side a 3-0 lead in the game. Nikhil Poojari (82) and Laldanmawia Ralte (84) extended the lead to 5-0 to register an easy win ahead of the Kolkata derby. This win will give a lot of confidence to East Bengal as they need only a draw against Mohun Bagan to clinch the Calcutta Football League for a record eighth time.
