Kolkata:
Heavy showers since morning forced the Indian team to call off practice two days ahead of the second ODI against Australia here at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday. Virat Kohli and his team preferred to stay at the team hotel as the entire ground was under the covers.  Steve Smith and his team though trained at the indoor facilities at the Cricket Association of Bengal.

The main attraction during the one and half hour practice session of the visitors was two local chinaman bowlers bowling at the indoor nets. Rupak Guha and Ashutosh Shibram from Suburban club and Engineers club were seen rolling their arms at the Australian nets. Sridharan Sriram, the spin bowling consultant of the Australian team didn’t look too impressed though.

The Aussie batsmen are yet to find a strategy to counter Indian chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav. Both the Indian wrist spinners – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzuvendra Chahal wrecked havoc in the first ODI at Chepauk. Both of them accounted for five wickets together in the first rubber as the Aussies lost by 26 runs via Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method.
The Australians did prepare themselves against a chinaman bowler from Kerala KK Jiyas before the first ODI but failed to deliver when it mattered. Barring the exception of Glenn Maxwell, all the Oz batsmen were bamboozled against the spin of Yadav and Chahal. A lot will depend on how the Oz batsmen counter the Indian wrist spinners.
Earlier in the day Australian Skipper Steve Smith headed straight to the ground to assess the situation. The Australian captain spotted a frustrating look as the ground was completely covered because of rain.

There are high chances of rain and thundershower in the next two days increasing the probability of another truncated affair. Australia could play just 21 overs in the first ODI chasing a revised score of 164. India posted 281/7.
India was earlier scheduled to practice in the afternoon. But the team management was forced to change the decision due to the overcast conditions.
