The Cricket Association of Bengal will host its first ever franchise based Bengal Premier League (BPL) much like the Karnataka Premier League. The BPL will involve six teams and will be staged in the month of December this year, confirmed CAB President Sourav Ganguly. "I have signed a contract with IMG-R. There will be six teams taking part and three grounds have been allotted for the tournament," Ganguly told reporters at the Eden Gardens. The Eden Gardens, Jadavpur University's Salt Lake campus ground, and one district stadium where floodlights will be installed for the same will play hosts to the BPL matches. There will be auctions taking place in the last week of August. The Bengal Premier League, a brainchild of CAB President Sourav Ganguly is being staged to promote the game of cricket in Bengal. "This is being done to promote Bengal cricket," Ganguly added. As per the Board's rules, no player outside India will be allowed to take part but star T20 players from around the country can be expected to turn up for the event. There may be a provision for including three players in the team from outside Bengal. Meanwhile, the former India captain predicted a good show by Virat Kohli and his team in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The 44 year old added that the injury to Manish Pandey won't affect team composition much. "India will do well in the ICC Champions Trophy. The squad looks good and one change won't affect much," Ganguly said. Defending champions India take on arch-rivals Pakistan on June 4. The Champions Trophy begins on June 1.
