Debasis Sen: Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar is perhaps the most complete batsman post the Bradman era. He is also the most worshipped cricketer in the world. Someone who can come close matching his popularity is the current India captain Virat Kohli. The master blaster holds just about every batting record worth owning in the game, including those for most runs and hundreds in Tests and ODIs, and most international runs. In his illustrious career spanning for 24 years Tendulkar has set some incredible records which will be very difficult to break. One batsman that can challenge a few records set by the master blaster is the current India captain Virat Kohli. Tendulkar’s record of scoring 49 ODI hundreds is definitely in danger of getting broken by none other than Kohli. The modern great already has 43 ODI tons under his belt from 248 matches at a staggering average of 59.33. Even the great Tendulkar did not have such a dominance in this format as Kohli. Tendulkar has scored 18426 runs from 463 ODI’s at an average of 44.83. However, there are still a few records set by Tendulkar which looks difficult to be broken by Virat Kohli. 1. Most runs in tests This record by Sachin Tendulkar will be absolutely difficult for Virat Kohli to break. Tendulkar has amassed 15921 runs in 200 tests at an average of 53.78. Yes, the master blaster has scored almost 16K runs in a single format which some of the players don’t even do in their entire career across all forms of the game. Kohli, on the other hand, has so far scored 7240 runs in 86 test matches at an average of 53.62. Considering the amount of test matches India plays these days, it will be extremely difficult for the modern run machine to break this record. 2. 51 Test centuries The master blaster has scored 51 centuries in this format which is just astonishing. Out of those 51 tons 29 has come outside India. These statistics simply proves his batting prowess against all bowling attacks in all sorts of conditions. Kohli has scored 27 test hundreds from 86 tests. Considering the amount of cricket he plays across all formats for India, the body will definitely take its toll even though he gives a lot of emphasis to his fitness. 3. Longest ODI career (22 years and 91 days) Tendulkar played international cricket for almost 24 years which in itself is a huge achievement. His ODI career was even more astonishing as it lasted for 22 years and 91 days. No international cricketer had such a long ODI career. Tendulkar made his ODI debut against Pakistan back on December 18, 1989 at Gujranwala. By the time he played his last ODI against Pakistan in Dhaka during the Asia Cup in 2012, he has played 463 ODI’s. Kohli, who made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on August 18, 2008, has so far been in international cricket for 12 years. So he (Kohli) has to keep himself supremely fit to come somewhere close to breaking this record. 4. Most number of Test matches Now this record is certainly not going to be broken. Sachin went on to play a massive 200 Test matches in his illustrious career. The reason we are saying that it is impossible for someone to play 200 Tests is because of the demands of the international cricket in the modern era. In modern days every country at most plays around 10 Tests in a year. The number gets reduced even further if is a World Cup year. So, definitely it will remain a dream for the current crop of cricketers to play 200 Tests before retiring. 5. Most runs in World Cups Sachin Tendulkar has represented India in six World Cups. His first World Cup was in Australia in 1992. While he ended up winning the elusive trophy in his own backward at Wankhede stadium on April 02, 2011. He scored 2278 runs across six World Cups at an astonishing average of 56.95. He also smacked six centuries and 15 half-centuries. In terms of runs scored in the World Cups, his nearest competitor is Ricky Ponting who is 535 runs behind him in this aspect. And amongst the contemporary cricketers, no one even comes close to him.
