Ben Stokes set to come out of retirement to play ODI World Cup in India
Xtra Time Web Desk: England's Test captain and star all-rounder, Ben Stokes, is reportedly set to reverse his retirement decision and participate in the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India, even if it means foregoing a season of the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to a report in The Telegraph newspaper, Stokes is willing to make this U-turn to aid England's World Cup defence, with his decision contingent upon a request from white-ball captain Jos Buttler. Stokes, who had retired from ODIs last year, could miss out on his Rs 16 crore IPL deal with Chennai Super Kings due to commitments to England's five-Test series against India from January 25 to March 11.
Managing his knee issues is also a concern, with a potential surgery in the pipeline. However, he's prepared to skip the IPL to ensure a proper recovery and potentially extend his leadership role for England. Stokes might contribute as a specialist batsman in the middle order during the World Cup, a tournament he previously excelled in during England's 2019 victory.
