Asia Cup 2023: Rohit, Kuldeep Yadav stars as India beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs to storm into the final

Xtra Time Web Desk: Rohit Sharma led Indian cricket team beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs in the Super-4 game of ongoing Asia Cup 2023 at R Premadasa stadium to storm into the final on Tuesday. Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the standout performer for India, continuing his fine form with a remarkable four-wicket haul, having previously taken five wickets against Pakistan just a day earlier. This exceptional performance, along with contributions from Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who each took two wickets, enabled India to successfully defend their total of 213 runs on a spin-friendly pitch.

This victory not only ensured India’s place in the final of the Asia Cup but also marked the end of Sri Lanka’s impressive streak of 13 consecutive victories in one-day internationals.

Despite India’s strong showing, Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage put up a valiant effort, claiming five wickets for 40 runs with the ball and later contributing an unbeaten 42 off 46 balls with the bat. Unfortunately for Sri Lanka, his heroic efforts weren’t enough as he ran out of batting partners.

It’s worth noting that India faced a challenging schedule, with their match against Pakistan initially interrupted by rain on Sunday, forcing them to resume play on Monday, the Reserve Day. In that game, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul both scored centuries, setting a formidable target of 356 for 2 in 50 overs. Kuldeep Yadav once again shone, taking a five-wicket haul to help India secure a resounding 228-run victory.

With these impressive victories, India demonstrated their strength in the tournament and secured a spot in the Asia Cup final, showcasing their prowess in both batting and bowling.
