AFC Cup: Mohun Bagan suffers an embarrassing 5-2 loss against Maziya

Internet Desk: Mohun Bagan Football Team today played their fourth match of AFC Cup 2017 Group stage at Male National Stadium against Maziya Sports & Recreation.

Maziya started of  the game quiet well and were on the attacking foot from the kick off.  Yasfaadah Habeeb scored the first goal for Maziya in 13th minute as Bagan defenders could not clear off their line. Mohun Bagan got their first chance in the 25th minute when Jeje’s header which had beaten the Maziya Goalkeeper only to be saved at the goal mouth. Maziya struck again on the counter attack on the 27th minute through Mohamed Umair.. Maziya team had good possession in the first half and with their Serbian striker Aleksandar Rakic were making good passing football which earned them the 3rd goal at 43rd minute.

Mohun Bagan once again came close to scoring in 45th minute as Jeje’s chip shot over the goalkeeper struck the post. At the lemon break the scoreline read Maziya 3 Mohun Bagan 0.

Mohun Bagan started the second half positively and pulled one back in the 48th minute  through a Kinshuk Debnath strike from Kean Lewis’s corner kick.  Mohun Bagan was clawing back to their natural game but  during the run of play Maziya had another counter attack and was awarded a penalty when Adey Ashadh was  brought down in the box . The penalty was converted by Asadulla at 55th minute.  Aleksadar Rakic made it 5-1 at 71st minute of the match for Maziya when he collected a loose ball just outside the box and drilled it past the Bagan custodian.

Mohun Bagan also had their share of luck as they were awarded a penalty in the in the 78th minute as Maziya defender handled the ball inside the box. Jeje converted spot kick. Mohun Bagan played some delightful football in the second half and enjoyed a better ball possession as well as creating good openings but somehow the team could not capitalize. The match ended Maziya 5 Mohun Bagan 2.
