Aamir’s ‘Dangal’ trailer explores the dream of a wrestler father

Dangal
Aamir Khan will be seen in a role of a wrestler father in his latest release “Dangal” which will hit theatres on December 23.

Internet Desk: Following the overwhelming response of “MS Dhoni-The Untold Story”, sports loving fans of the country will be entertained to another movie with a sporting backdrop. Superstar Aamir Khan packs a punch as a father training his daughters to make them award-winning wrestlers in the much-awaited trailer of “Dangal”.

Aamir, 51, shared the trailer of the real-life inspired drama on social media, writing, “Here goes… Tell me what you think. Love. a.”

The trailer begins with 51-year-old Mahavir Singh Phogat looking at the medals he won as a young wrestler (played by Aamir Khan) and says, “Unhe banana parta hain. Pyar se, mehnat se , lagan se.”

Mahavir’s dream was to see his yet-to-be-born-son win gold for the country.

“Jo mein karna chahta tha, who mera beta kar ke dikhayega. Desh ke liye gold jitega hamara beta. Aapna tiranga sabse upar lehraoega” which means “What I have failed to achieve, my sons will do so. Our son will win gold for the country and keep the tricolor flying high.”

However, when Mahavir is blessed with four daughters, he takes it upon himself to train them as world-class wrestlers.

Somewhat disappointed he says to himself, “Mera jo sapna tha woh sirf chhorai pura kar sake”( “what I have dreamt of could be achieved by a son only”)

Based on an incredible true story the next scene switches to his daughters Geeta and Babita landing a few punches on two boys who were badly bruised. That relieves his dream as he embarks on the mission of training them to gold winning wrestlers.

He even tells his wife, played by actress Sakshi Tanwar, “Hamari chhoriyaan chhoron se kam hain ke?” (Is our daughters weaker than boys or what?)

The next scene flashes Mahavir in an akhada training her daughters. He murmurs “Woh baat to mere samajh mein na aayi ki gold to gold hotha he, chhora lawe ya chhori” (have never given it a thought as a gold is always a gold, whether it is won by a boy or a girl)

A heavily-bearded, heavily-accented Aamir is perfect in his restrained act of wrestler-father but it is his two daughters Geeta and Babita, played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who shine in the trailer.

Produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Disney’s Siddharth Roy Kapur, “Dangal” has been directed Nitesh Tiwari. It will hit theatres on December 23.
