Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India all-rounder Shivam Dube has been a revelation in the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan. The Mumbai cricketer has displayed stellar performances both with the bat and ball. Shivam scored an impressive 60* off 40 balls in the first T20I at Mohali. He followed it up with another unbeaten innings of 63 off 32 balls in the second T20I, showcasing his power-hitting prowess against a formidable spin attack.

The dashing all-rounder is being seen as a substitute for Hardik Pandya if he is not available. Dube, who has already played for India failed to make an impact. But a stint with Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni played a pivotal role in Shivam Dube’s resurgence in international cricket, a fact openly acknowledged by the lanky all-rounder. Dube had credited Dhoni’s influence on his game since joining CSK in IPL 2022, for bringing out his best. Dhoni’s unwavering support and encouragement allowed Dube to express his natural style of play, leading to remarkable performances.

Beyond just shaping Dube’s mindset and elevating his batting position at CSK, Dhoni also offered technical guidance to his struggles against short-pitched deliveries. Despite being one of the tallest Indian cricketers, Dube had faced challenges with bouncers. Afghanistan exploited this weakness in the first T20I, but Dube, heeding Dhoni’s advice, exhibited resilience without throwing away his wicket.

This tactical adjustment resulted in an impressive performance with the bat. Dhoni’s mentorship and strategic inputs played a crucial role in Dube’s impactful comeback on the international stage.
