5th Test: Rishabh Pant hits his maiden hundred in style against England on day 5

XtraTime Web Desk: Indian cricket team’s young wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant hit his maiden test ton in style on the last day of the fifth & final test at the Oval today.

Pant who is playing just his third test debuted in this ongoing test series at Trent Bridge reached this feat with hitting a huge six against Adil Rashid in just 117 deliveries. In his debut game he also became the very first batsman to hit a six to open his account.
While reaching to his ton he became the only fourth Indian cricketer to reach at maiden hundred with a six after Kapil Dev, Irfan Pathan _ Harbhajan Singh.

On the other hand Pant now also created a new record as he is the highest scorer as an Indian wicket keeper in the fourth innings. He surpassed former India skipper MS Dhoni to achieve this record.

Dhoni held the record for the 76 not out he scored against England at Lord’s in 2007. Dhoni’s innings back then had helped India to secure a critical draw as they went on to win the series 1-0 under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy.

This is also the highest Test score by an Indian keeper in England. The previous best of 92 was also scored by Dhoni at the same ground in 2007.

Though both KL Rahul (149) and Rishabh Pant (114) are back in the pavilion but their fight in the fourth innings will be remembered for a long period of time.
