Sabyasachi Bagchi: Pannalal Chattopadhyay and his wife Chaitali Chattopadhyay are about to create a World record as the couple is going to watch the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. This will be their tenth World Cup for them as spectators which is a record itself.
Pannalal , 84 years old football lover lives in Khiderpore, Kolkata. Thehusband wife duo are watching World’s best football carnival since 1982.
Pannalal went to his friend’s place in England and then went to Spain to watch the FIFA World Cup but, he watched just a one match back in 1982. He wants to thank Biswanath Dutta, former official of a kolkata club who inspired him to watch the 1986 World Cup. “He gave me the courage to go and watch the 1986 World Cup. We still maintained our record,” Pannalal said.
The Chattopadhyay couple went to watch 1994 World Cup Final and preserved momorable albums and mementoes in their cupboards.
Not only Pannalal but also his wife Chaitali is also a football lover. She watched nine World Cups including the controversial Quarter Final match between Argentina and England in the year 1986. She was one of those to watched the “Hand of God” incident live in the ground.
