Unlucky Thy Name Is Senegal
Senegal has battled not only opponents but also various adversities off the pitch recently. It was like fate wanted to strike at the most unfortunate time.

AKM Saifulla: For some reason, adversity repeatedly stands in Senegal's path. It is as if fate reserves its toughest trials specifically for them. Recent events collectively evoke a deep sense of empathy for this team; the sequence of events tells a very poignant story.
It's a nation forged under the scorching African sun and has endured the heat of a thousand years. A sense of grievance and unfulfilled aspirations seem to be its constant companions-Hardships they have carried alongside their lives. It is a tradition of sorts. Senegal's footballers seem to have learned from childhood to move forward while embracing this. Burying their grievances, sense of deprivation, and disappointment deep within, they step onto the field every time, dreaming of flying their country's flag high. But fate is cruel
Senegal has battled not only opponents but also various adversities off the pitch recently. It was like fate wanted to strike at the most unfortunate time.
First, came the controversy surrounding the AFCON final. Dissatisfaction with the refereeing and disputes over decisions during crucial moments meant they could not fully savor the joy of victory. In the final, a disputed goal was awarded to Morocco which prompted the Senegalese team to walk off the pitch. They returned and won the match but were later disqualified based on regulations regarding their walk-off. The trophy was handed to Morocco and there was a bitter sense of injustice.
Then, came allegations of financial irregularities within the federation. The coach publicly spoke about outstanding salary payments, and reports emerged of dissatisfaction regarding the players' bonuses. Yet, the team did not crumble; instead, putting everything aside, they took the field for their country.
Upon arriving in the United States for the tournament, the Senegalese team faced excessive security screening at the airport. Although labeled a "routine check," the incident sparked widespread debate and criticism. Questions were also raised about their accommodation; instead of a five-star hotel, the team was put up in a four-star one!
And on the field? Controversial refereeing haunted them at every step. The decision regarding the last-minute penalty against Belgium went against them. It was a fifty-fifty call; Senegal, the unlucky side, did not get the benefit of the doubt!
But the question remains: why do things always seem to go against Senegal?
