Spain's World Cup celebrations were overshadowed by a heartbreaking tragedy after a 13-year-old boy lost his life in a devastating accident during victory celebrations in western Spain.

The incident took place in Ciudad Rodrigo, a historic town near the Portuguese border. Thousands of fans had gathered around the iconic Árbol Gordo Fountain to celebrate Spain's World Cup triumph when a section of the fountain suddenly collapsed.

The teenage boy was killed in the accident, while several others sustained injuries. Among them, another minor remains in critical condition.

According to initial reports, a large number of people had climbed onto the fountain during the celebrations. Authorities believe the excessive weight may have caused part of the structure to give way.

Emergency responders and medical teams rushed to the scene immediately after the collapse. The injured were quickly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Regional emergency services confirmed that the accident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. local time.

In an official statement, the Ciudad Rodrigo administration expressed its condolences, saying:

"This is an irreparable loss for our city. What should have been a night of celebration has turned into a heartbreaking tragedy. Our thoughts are with the family of the young victim and with everyone injured in the incident."

Spain had earlier defeated Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey to lift their second world title since 2010, sparking nationwide celebrations. However, the joy of becoming world champions has now been overshadowed by this devastating incident.
