Kolkata: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has no problem in BCCI seeking the opinion of Indian captain Virat Kohli on the issue of coach selection. BCCI CEO Rahul Johuri has flown into Jamaica to seek the opinion of Virat on what his choice will be as coach of the Indian team.

According to Ganguly, “I have absolutely no problem in the BCCI taking the opinion of Virat as to what his opinion are about the coach selection. His views will be very important because at the end of the day he will have to lead the Indian team along with whoever is appointed the new coach. We will give him what is best for the team.”

It is learnt that the BCCI will be organising some sort of video conferencing for the applicants who will not be able to present in person for the interview. Former Team Director Ravi Shastri is all certain to give his interview by video conferencing as he will be in London.

“We will see how it goes as I am not aware of the procedures (skype call or video conferencing) of the interview. I have to speak to the board and find out what is the way,” said Ganguly to xtratime.in

While Ravi Shastri is tipped to take the job of the coach, Ganguly though is not too sure though.

“Everybody has a fair chance and that’s why these applications are taken. We will decide who is the best suitable person for the job,” said Sourav on Saturday.

Ganguly will head to Mumbai on July 10 for Team India coach selection.

Sourav, who spent half of his 45th birthday in flight was floored by the outpouring of wishes on his special day as he returned to his Behala home to an overwhelming welcome on his special day.

On being asked to comment that the past one year the board was entangled with court cases, he said,

“It’s unfortunate how the Supreme Court has come down very heavily on the BCCI. It has to be admitted that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has been a good body, running the game of cricket smoothly over the years. Every organisation will have its weaknesses but BCCI has its strengths also. Let’s find out what happens as the Supreme Court will be giving its verdict on the 14th of July.”

The former India captain celebrated his 45th birthday on Saturday. The social media was flooded with good wishes for the left hander.

“I saw people gathering at the Delhi airport as well. Thank you to everyone… the fans still keep turning up every year. There were so many messages on twitter it feels very nice.”

“Sana’s message was special, my former teammates, chief minister board officials, ICC… I thank everyone,” he said at his Behala home this evening.

“No special programme today I will be at home and there will be vegetarian as there’s Guru Poornima today.”

Recalling his 2002 Birthday, he said; “The year we won NatWest we were at Lord’s London at this time in 2002. When dad was alive it used to be great.”
