Kolkata: Indian speedster Md Shami does not want to remember what happened to him and his family over the past few hours. The Indian cricketer was attacked by a few hooligans in the locality on Saturday. The family is still in utter shock to have acquainted with such an incident. But the cricketer himself has taken the incident sportingly.

According to Shami, “I have not asked for any security but I would hope such things do not happen in future.”

On being asked whether the city will still remain close to his heart, Shami immediately replied, “See, when I had nothing the city accepted me with open arms. I hope such things will not be repeated again. As far as I am concerned, Kolkata will always remain closer to my heart as I cannot ignore this city. I do not want to remember what has happened. I always consider it as my first home.”

Shami’s two year old daughter Aaira celebrated her second birthday today. Both Shami and his wife Hasin Jahan were in a relaxed mood. The Bengal fast bowler will be flying off to Colombo via Mumbai tomorrow to take part in a full series against Sri Lanka. Talking about the forthcoming series against Lanka, Shami said, “We will play with the same approach as we have been doing so in this format. They are a good side but we also have the resources to do well.”

On being asked about his fitness issue of late, Shami looked a bit frustrated.

“The issue with my fitness has ended a long time back. I was part of the Champions Trophy squad and also played a few matches in West Indies. I am feeling comfortable with my fitness and performance. There will be odd matches here and there when you will not do good but overall I am happy. As far as test series in Sri Lanka is concerned, I am looking forward to the practice match we have and also the practice sessions,” said Shami to reporters in Kolkata.

Commenting on the new bowling coach Bharat Arun, Shami feel, “Combination is always key for any unit. According to me, I have enjoyed working with him (Bharat Arun) and hope this time also it will remain the same.”

Lastly, speaking about the new coach Ravi Shastri, Shami replied, “We had a great time when he was the Team Director. Hopefully we will have a much better time.”
