There have been quite a few examples of players who have been identified particularly in context to their jersey numbers. But do you know that there are specific and interesting reasons for players to choose their jersey numbers. Here are 5 such examples :

Virat Kohli (18) : The former Team India skipper chose this particular jersey number as his father passed away on December 18, 2006. This serves particularly as a tribute to Kohli’s deceased father.

Rohit Sharma (45) : The current Team India skipper at the start of his career wanted to continue with jersey number 9. But however, as he was about to appear for the U-19 World Cup 2006, the 34 year old discussed with his mother and chose to don the 45 number jersey, the sum of which equals to 9 (4+5).

MS Dhoni (7) : The World Cup winning Team India skipper donned the jersey number 7 as his birthday is on July 7, 1981. The jersey has been synonymous with Mahi since his debut.

Shane Warne (23) : The legendary former Aussie leg spinner, wore jersey number 23 as his idol, the legendary Michael Jordan also wore the jersey number 18.

Sachin Tendulkar (10) : Considered to be the God of Cricket, Tendulkar at first wore the jersey number 99 at the start of his Team India career. But the Master Blaster later changed his number to the legendary ’10’ after consulting with an astrologer. The jersey was later retired by BCCI after the Shardul Thakur controversy.
