What would be Dhoni’s future? Here is what India’s former captain is saying

Sabyasachi Bagchi: India’s journey in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup after they lost the semis against New Zealand on Wednesday. Now they will tour to West Indies later this month. But the question is whether MS Dhoni would go with the team to face Chris Gayle & Co? It was in news that Dhoni might retire from international cricket but after India’s defeat in the semis India skipper Virat Kohli said Dhoni didn’t tell anything to the team management in that matter. Beside that he hasn’t said anything to BCCI whether he will go to Windies tour. Despite of that www.xtratime.in talked with former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar, Kiran More, Dhoni’s childhood coach Keshav Banerjee & his close friend Mihir Diwakar to talk about the future of ‘Captain Cool’.

Dilip Vengsarkar: In 2023 Dhoni would be 41 and at that age I don’t think he would play any international cricket. As per me he will take his retirement after playing next year’s T20 Word Cup. But another thing is that the current selection committee & team management don’t have any guts to ask him when he will retire. Dhoni will take his own decision and that’s why I think he will decide his future on his own.

Kiran More: I don’t know why everyone is talking about Dhoni’s retirement. Let him take the call about his future. I know Dhoni is an aged person now but you have to think that if Dhoni takes his retirement then the Indian middle order will be more vulnerable. Many cricket pundits criticized Dhoni’s slow batting in the World Cu but you have to understand if he didn’t hold a side in the middle order then India would have lost man matches. He has given a lot to Indian cricket, so the BCCI and the fans should keep their faith on him.

Keshav Banerjee: The retirement isn’t in the hands of MS Dhoni right now. It’s also surrounded with his endorsements & political issues as well. In November there is an Assembly Election in Jharkhand. After that election Dhoni may join politics as well. But I think he will take retirement after next year’s World Cup.

Mihir Diwakar: Dhoni retiring after winning the World Cup would have been a blessing in disguise for all of us but we are so unfortunate that we didn’t see that. But I think the time has come when he shouldretire from international cricket. The reason is that the next World Cup will be played in India in 2023 and I don’t think he would take his career that far. But the think his if he plays the T20 World Cup next year I won’t be surprised.
