Xtra Time Web Desk: Star batter Virat Kohli showcased his fluid stroke play during a rigorous net session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, amid growing concerns over his strike rate. Kohli, seen putting in hard yards in preparation for the upcoming clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 11, Thursday.

In a special video shared by RCB’s official social media handle, Kohli appeared focused, demonstrating his versatility in facing both pace and spin bowling. Despite the sweltering Bengaluru heat, Kohli remained undeterred, displaying his adeptness in executing drives and lofted shots. Currently leading the charts as the top run-scorer of the tournament, Kohli holds the Orange Cap with an impressive tally of 316 runs in 5 matches of IPL 2024, boasting an average of 105.33. In RCB’s previous game against RR, Kohli notched up his 8th IPL century, scoring 113 runs from 72 balls.

Despite Kohli’s exceptional form, RCB has struggled, with the Faf du Plessis-led team registering 4 losses in 5 matches, managing only one win. As they gear up to face MI, who secured their first victory against DC by 29 runs, RCB will be eager to bounce back and translate Kohli’s individual brilliance into team success.

Although his century drew criticism for its slow pace, cricket legend Brian Lara recently came out in support of Kohli, highlighting his value beyond just the strike rate. “The strike rate depends on the position, and for an opener, the strike-rate of 130-140 is pretty alright. But if you are coming in the middle-order, then you may be required to hit at 150 or 160. As you have seen in this IPL, batsmen are hitting at 200 in the latter part of an innings. But an opener like Kohli always has the chance of starting at 130, bat through the overs and finish at 160 or even higher, which is alright,” said Lara.
