Virat Kohli likely to be rested for T20 series against SA at home; section in BCCI keen to see him leave one format? Reports

Former India captain Virat Kohli is all set to be given a break for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa at home. Kohli has been going through an extended poor form. As per reports, Virat Kohli can lose his place in India T20 squad as well if he keeps performing poorly.

It is learnt the selectors will speak to Virat not just on his form but also on his future plans. A section in BCCI is set to advise Kohli to leave one format and focus on the other two including Test which is a priority for the former Indian captain as well.

BCCI is desperate to win an ICC trophy starting with the T20 World Cup in Australia. With Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan in the mix, the prospect of dropping Virat Kohli isn’t ruled out.

The selectors are yet to discuss the matter with Virat. If we wish to play the T20 series against South Africa, he will be kept in the team. Former cricketers including Ravi Shastri have advised him to take rest, calling him ‘overcooked’, he is yet to inform the selectors about his availability. The selectors are already planning to rest a few senior players including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah for the T20 series against South Africa.

Kohli has been going through a bad patch in the ongoing edition of IPL. He is yet to score a fifty in the cash rich league this season. In the ongoing IPL, the star batter has scored only 128 runs from 9 matches so far.
