Xtra Time Web Desk: The culmination of the ICC World Cup 2023 for Rohit Sharma’s Indian cricket team proved to be a bitter disappointment as they suffered a six-wicket defeat to Australia in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, November 19. Rohit and his boys went on to win all the group league games including the semi-final to reach the final. But failed to cross the final hurdle as the five times World Champions Australia displayed superior all-round cricket.
Post the final there were emotional moments in the Indian camp. Star India batter Virar Kohli, who won the Player of the Tournament for scoring 765 runs was seen hugging Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell after the final. Kohli also gifted his jersey to Maxwell, who plays for the same franchise RCB in the Indian Premier League.
Despite early setbacks, Australia successfully chased the target with seven overs to spare, courtesy of a remarkable 192-run partnership between Travis Head (134 off 120) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*). The defeat left the host nation and its fans in disappointment as they fell short of securing the coveted title.
