Xtra Time Web Desk: Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir is eyeing a contract with any of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. In an bid to make that happen, the Pak pacer has decided to apply for a British Citizenship since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not allow cricketers from Pakistan to participate in the cash rich league.
The 29 year old Amir shocked the cricket world by announcing his retirement from international cricket. He had made some serious allegations on the Pakistan team management last year, which was the reason for him to retire from international cricket.
In a recent chat with Pak Passion, the pacer shared his plans of applying for a British citizenship and playing in the IPL.
According to Amir, “At the moment I’ve been granted indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom. I’m enjoying my cricket these days and plan to play for another 6 or 7 years so let’s see how things go. My children will grow up in England and receive their education there so no doubt I will be spending a fair amount of time there.”
The BCCI has stopped allowing the Pakistani players to participate in the IPL after the second edition due to the restrictions from the Indian Government. Former Pakistani all rounder Azhar Mahmood did appear for IPL franchises like Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Kolkata Knight Riders after the second edition, but he was registered as an English player.
