This Indian cricketer wants to come to Kolkata amid lockdown. Find why?

XtraTime Web Desk: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a 21-day lockdown last month, and on April 14 he extended the lockdown till May 3 to contain the deadly COVID-19 lockdown. Few people had got the chance to come back to their homes but most of the people who work at other states are still stuck there and still waiting for the lockdown to end so that they can go back to their home. One of them who is stuck away from his home is Shahbaz Nadeem.

The left-arm spinner is stuck in Dhanbad and is waiting to go to Kolkata for his wife’s treatment. “She has fatty liver and is undergoing treatment for it for the past four-five months. She is taking medications as prescribed by the doctors but right now she is feeling weakness and nausea,” he told The New Indian Express.

Nadeem did leave Jharkhand but as per SA Rahman, his childhood coach, he was not allowed to enter West Bengal. Nadeem is hopeful of going to Kolkata and has said that he will seek the West Bengal government’s help.

India is under a lockdown which ends on May 3. The first lockdown ended on April 14 but the government was forced to extend it as the number of reported cases increased in India. The deadly virus has claimed more than 500 lives in the country so far. Should the situation improve by May 3, the government will lift the lockdown.

Coronavirus’ impact on cricket

The coronavirus outbreak forced the BCCI to cancel Irani Trophy 2019/20 and the ODI series against South Africa. IPL 2020, which was to start on March 29, was also delayed till April 15. It has now been postponed for an indefinite period. The tournament is likely to take place before the T20 World Cup.

Nadeem, who has played 64 IPL matches, will represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020.
