Internet Desk: Former BCCI president N Srinavasan and ex-vice president Niranjan Shah has been restrained by the Supreme Court to attend the Board’s Special General Meeting (SGM) on July 26. The Supreme Court also said that only the office bearers of the state associations are the ones who can attend the meeting.

The state associations were advised by the SC to implement the Lodha reforms and must only seek advice of the court when they find it difficult to implement the reforms.

Modification of reforms like team selectors being reduced from five to three will be considered by the SC.

2 weeks back the Committee of Administrators (CoA) said that Srinivasan and Shah are “disrupters” who prevented the cricket body’s from adopting court-mandated reforms.

“How can a person disqualified by virtue of apex court order be nominated as nominee of state cricket associations and attend the meeting of BCCI,” a bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said.

Senior advocate Tripathi reportedly said Srinivasan and Shah were disqualified under the new eligibility norms fixed by the SC after accepting the Lodha panel recommendations.

However the two state associations instead of sending their elected office-bearers decided to send these two “disqualified persons” as their nominees to attend the SGM.

“Such disqualified persons are effectively able to do indirectly what they have been prohibited by the SC from doing directly. Such disqualified persons have a vested interest in stalling implementation of the SC judgement because, if the judgement is implemented, such disqualified persons will have to relinquish control over their respective state member associations,” said the CoA’s status report.
