The five greatest innings of Virender Sehwag

Internet Desk: On the auspicious birthday of Nawab of Najafgarh, Virender Sehwag- the most destructive batsman to play cricket. A pioneer of creating records, Sehwag was the first Indian to score a triple test century and then better his highest score by scoring yet another triple century. He is also 
one of only two players in the world along with Chris Gayle  to score a double hundred in ODI and a triple hundred in Test Cricket. He also has a ODI double century under his belt when he scored 219 against West Indies. The opener has numerous records, so here we take a look at his 5 best special innings.

1) 309 vs Pakistan, Multan, 2004

This magnificent knock from Sehwag created the opening for India’s first test series victory on Pakistan soil. Sehwag bashed and battered the Pakistani bowlers left and right as he went to score a triple century in the first test at Multan. The humongous score of 309 made Sehwag the first ever Indian batsman to score a triple century in the test format.

2)319 vs South Africa, Chennai, 2008

4 years after registering his maiden triple century in test, Sehwag repeated and this time against the Proteas and thereby bettered his highest score. In reply to a huge total amassed by South African’s Sehwag blasted the triple century against a formidable pace attack and registered the fastest triple century in the test format.

3) 219 vs West Indies, Indore, 2011

Sehwag was in a destructive mood when he registered his maiden ODI double century, a record which was made by Sachin Tendulkar. Viru bettered Sachin’s 200 and scored 219 in just 149 deliveries. Spectators were left in awe as Viru slammed 7 huge sixes and 25 fours.

4) 293 vs Sri Lanka, Mumbai, 2009

With just 7 runs remaining from achieving a world feat of becoming the only batsman score three triple century, however Sehwag was dismissed on 293. This brilliant innings from Viru took India closer to winning the series.

5) 195 vs Australia, Melbourne, 2003

Sehwag once again hit the mighty Australian hard as he went to score a brilliant 195 at Melbourne. In a fit to score his double ton with a sixer he was dismissed and India lost a good chance to win the test series at Australia. Australia won the game and thereby drew the series.
