The meeting took place at the 'World Championship of Legends' event in Birmingham, where India’s veterans faced off against Pakistan’s veteran team.

The controversy began during the T20 World Cup 2024, when Kamran Akmal made an offensive remark about Sikhs while analyzing an Indian cricket team's game. His comments, made on a Pakistani TV channel, targeted India's bowler Arshdeep Singh, leading to widespread outrage.

"Kuch bhi ho sakta hai... Dekhein last over karna Arshdeep Singh ne hai. Waise uska rhythm nahi laga. 12 bajj gaye hai (Anything can happen. The last over will be bowled by Arshdeep Singh; he hasn't looked in great rhythm. And it is already 12)," Akmal had remarked.

The remark did not sit well with Harbhajan Singh, who responded fiercely on social media. He condemned Akmal's joke, reminding him of the historical sacrifices made by Sikhs. "Lakh di laanat tere Kamraan Akhmal.. You should know the history of Sikhs before u open ur filthy mouth. We Sikhs saved ur mothers and sisters when they were abducted by invaders, the time invariably was 12 o'clock. Shame on you guys.. Have some Gratitude," Harbhajan retorted.

Facing immense backlash, Kamran Akmal issued a public apology. "I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologize to @harbhajan_singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry. #Respect #Apology," he stated.

When Harbhajan and Kamran met in Birmingham, many expected tensions to flare. Instead, the two were seen engaging in an animated conversation. Although the audio of their chat was not available, it is likely they addressed the previous incident, potentially seeking a resolution.
