T20 World Cup 2021: Indian squad to be announced on Wednesday at 9pm; Selection Committee chairman Chetan Sharma to brief media

Xtra Time Web Desk: In an unprecedented circumstance the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 will be announced on Friday night at 9pm. The announcement will be made by BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Selection Committee Chairman Chetan Sharma. The reason for the delay in announcement of the squad is due to the fact that the Indian team were travelling from London to Manchester and hence India captain Virat Kohli was not available to join the selectors.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee will meet on Wednesday to pick the Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 to be hosted by BCCI from October 17 to November 14, 2021, in the UAE & Oman. The selection meeting will be followed by a press conference,” read a BCCI release.

It is believed that the selectors had already had a chat with skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri, and another customary meeting on Wednesday morning to finalise the selection. Furthermore, India will also carry a few additional players as a COVID-19 contingency. It is learnt the selection committee will have a virtual meeting on Wednesday with both Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri, who will join the meeting from isolation.
