Suryakumar Yadav ruled out for at least 7 weeks due to Grade II tear in ankle

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been sidelined for seven weeks due to a Grade-II tear in his ankle. The injury occurred during the third T20I against South Africa in Johannesburg, where he twisted his ankle while fielding. A recent scan revealed the severity of the injury, and if all goes well with his recovery plan, he is expected to be fit by the first week of February.

As a result of this setback, Suryakumar Yadav will miss the upcoming three-T20I series against Afghanistan at home, scheduled to begin on January 11. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stated that he will need time for rehabilitation and is required to report to the National Cricket Academy for the recovery process.

Suryakumar Yadav was initially appointed as the T20I captain in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who is yet to return to action following an ankle injury sustained during the 50-over World Cup. With Suryakumar’s absence, the BCCI may need to find a new captain for the Afghanistan series, which kicks off shortly after the conclusion of the Test series in South Africa. The development adds a layer of complexity to the team’s leadership dynamics as they prepare for the upcoming series.
