Kolkata: If everything stays the way it is and does not change drastically, CAB President Sourav Ganguly is set to retain his position as CAB President once again. There are few reasons behind Sourav’s retention as the CAB President which can be identified. First of all, Biswarup Dey and co. is yet to decide on the presidential candidate or rather it can be said nobody is ready to fight for the presidential post. Again Sourav Ganguly has proved his capabilities and worth as CAB President  in last few months after Jagmohan Dalmiya has passed away and he had to take the charge on an urgent call. So it is quite certain that Sourav Ganguly will once again sit on the chair of the CAB President in the next AGM. Also the way Sourav Ganguly has received support from Mamata Banerjee, it is certain that it will be difficult for Biswarup Dey and Co. to get away with the election and emerge victorious.

Presently, Subir Ganguly is the joint-secretary of the CAB and Biswarup Dey is the treasurer. According to reliable sources from the CAB, Subir Ganguly is expected to fill in his nomination as the treasurer from the opposition panel led by Biswarup Dey while Mr. Dey himself will fill in his nomination as the joint-secretary of the CAB.

Now, the question automatically arises that who will be their second candidate for the post of joint-secretary. According to sources inside CAB, Biswarup and his team will support  Abhishek Dalmiya, son of Jagmohan Dalmiya as their unanimous choice. Significantly, Abhishek Dalmiya is nominating as the joint-secretary from the panel of Sourav and Co, but will get full support from Biswarup and his team.

But the question which is raising eyebrows of everyone is that it is still a one year to go of the passing away of Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya, and in this situation was there any need of an election in the CAB?

Biswarup Dey said on this issue that after the passing away of Mr. Dalmiya, respective Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee had requested the four CAB officials (Sourav, Abhishek, Subir and Biswarup) to run the CAB. So with due respect they are not filling in any nomination against Sourav Ganguly and Abhishek Dalmiya but they will fight for the other two posts as Sourav Ganguly himself wants election in the CAB. But major part of members  do not support their records and efforts to hold back the chairs of office bearers in CAB for years.  Sourav himself is very annoyed with the way Dey and his team has captured CAB’s posts for many years and finds lack of transparency on this effort. He is rather very straight and clear on his vision, ‘Everyone has to go after a certain period of time. Even I am not here to stay here for long.’

According to sources from the CAB, from the panel of Sourav Ganguly, Prabir Chakraborty or Naresh Ojha will fight for the post of Joint-secretary . It is also learnt that Mohun Bagan assistant secretary, Srinjoy Basu may fight for the post of treasurer and if it does not happen then  the duo of Naresh Ojha and Prabir Chakraborty will fight for the post of treasurer and joint-secretary respectively.

But all these permutations and combinations will come into play keeping in mind next week’s Supreme Court’s verdict on Lodha Committee recommendations on the reforms in BCCI. Before Chief Justice, Mohammed Ibrahim Kalifulla retires on 22nd July, Supreme Court is set to give its verdict between 11th-15th July.In one of the recommendations by Lodha Committee it was clearly mentioned that one office-bearer cannot stay on holding his position for 8 years or more. If this reform is implemented then it will be difficult for Biswarup Dey and Co. to contest in the election.

Sourav’s opposition panel did not look worried at all with his matter as they feel after Supreme Court’s verdict, it will take almost two years for the BCCI to get all those reforms implemented and there will be no harm in contesting in the elections while Sourav and co. is claiming that the opposition panel’s thinking is totally baseless as BCCI have to implement the reforms as soon as possible when SC gives the verdict.
