Kolkata: Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly who is a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee, whose responsibility is to choose the next head coach of India has opened his mouth regarding the Kumble-Kohli controversy. He said that the decision of Kumble to resign at the last moment was his personal choice.

“He has resigned at the last minute. It is not possible to have someone (so early),” Ganguly, who is also the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) told reporters here.

Before the West Indies tour, Kumble had penned down that his partnership with Kohli has been deemed “untenable”.

Although the trio of Ganguly, Laxman and Tendulkar tried to settle the brawl between Kohli and Kumble but the rift couldn’t be fixed.

Asked what went wrong, Ganguly said: “I don’t know. It’s his personal decision. I don’t want to talk about it. It’s a decision of the coach.”

Kumble’s contract of one year ended with the commencement of the ICC Champions Trophy but when he was offered an extension for the Windies tour he denied and then resigned from his post later that day. His not travlling with the team to West Indies raised suspicion about his continuance as the head coach.

Kumble stayed back in London to attend the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) ‘Annual Conference’ as he is the chairman of the Cricket Committee.

Amidst the rift between the duo, the BCCI seeked for applications from fresh candidates for the post of the head coach. Kumble was given the direct entry for the coach selection procedure.

M.V. Sridhar, deputed of the BCCI has said that the new coach will be appointed before the Sri Lanka tour while it is to be seen how the team performs under Sanjay Bangar in the current Windies tour starting from tomorrow.
