Internet Desk: MLP climbs out of relegation with a 1-0 win over Nangkiew Irat. Salseng’s lone goal proved to be enough to take away much needed three points in a do or die clash, as they put up a great defensive show to edge past Nangkiew in the Gionee Shillong Premier League. It was a must win situation for the Police team, and going by the terms they made a lightning start, their aggression and pace in the opening exchanges, saw them gaining the upper hand on the 4th minute, with Salseng Sangma’s sharp header finding the back of the net from a well floated corner taken by Samson Nongrum, however the orange brigade could not carry forward their momentum, as Nangkiew’s alert defenders cramped them for space and in turn launched a series of attack which kept police team custodian busy till the end of the first half. As the second half unfolded, Nangkiew resumed from where they left, moved forward with great intensity to level the deficit as there was less threat coming from the opponent’s end, but bullet proof defense from the Police team resisted and denied any scope of scoring. With the match approaching towards its stoppage time, Nangkiew frustration grew and relentlessly triggered shot after shot, but MLP caretaker’s safe pair of hands took care of it. Nangkiew’s sluggish first quarter performance saw them conceding the match, and now they have slipped into the relegation zone with 14 points from 13 matches. While MLP have moved out of relegation with 15 points from 13, but table may turn, since MLP will face the strong side Langsning in their last match on 25th, and on 26th Nangkiew will lock horns with the bottom rooted side Nongkrem.
